2018 Creative Impact Awards Announced!
The Cultural Alliance of York County is excited to announce the winners of the 2018 Creative Impact Awards. These awards help inspire children, energize neighborhoods, and create an interactive community in York County by funding arts-based projects/programs that impact our region by contributing to a thriving local economy, and creating a more connected community.
The recipients of our 2018 Creative Impact Awards are:
Appell Center for the Performing Arts “Momix: Opportunity, Connection & Inspiration” – providing workshops with national touring group Momix that includes the deaf and hearing impaired community
Artistic New Directions (Cobblestone Players) “Spring Homeschool Drama Production Camp & Summer Drama Productions Camp” – home school camps to provided local youths with drama opportunities
Dillsburg Arts and Revitalization Council “Dillsburg, Its History & Founders” – educate children and their families on local history through visual art performances, photography and live music
Downtown Inc. “Spotlight on the Arts: Downtown Community Events” – provide live music and support downtown artist during First Friday events
DreamWrights Center for Community Arts “Saturday Series in the Studio” – monthly cultural events designed to increase community participation in diverse arts
Gettysburg Community Theatre “Theatre Changes Lives!” – bringing the Penguin Project to Hanover. The project pairs special needs youths and a non-special needs youth mentor on and off stage
Give Local York – “Give Local York” provide local music at giving day celebration
Greater York Dance “Live Music Meets Dance at the Appell Center” – pairing Midstate Ballet of Greater York Dance alongside the live music of the York Symphony Orchestra for 20th anniversary of their Nutcracker
Hanover Area Arts Guild “Arts Education Enhancement” – provide art education classes for free to students
Hanover Symphony Orchestra “The Mark Wood Experience: Electrify Your Symphony” – artist-teaching workshop that transforms music education by improving student motivation, attitude and retention
Positive Energy Arts “On Your Mark, Get Set, Dance!” – five week summer dance camp for grades 4th through 7th at York County Libraries
Steam Into History “Pennsylvania Cowboy Weekend” – educate visitors of all ages on the importance of the cowboy moment in American History. The event will take place at Summit Grove Campground, the station in New Freedom and aboard the train
Susquehanna Folk Music Society “The Susquehanna Folk Festival” – two day folk music festival at The Roundtop Mountain Resort featuring artist such as David Holt, The Quebe Sisters and Rory Block
The Parliament Arts Organization “Summer Art Market 2018” – featuring unique artisans, food trucks, live music, and family/children’s activities.
Unforgettable Big Band “Restoring History: The Big Swing Thing” – celebrate York’s role in the Swing Era by bringing six present day big bands together for two days
WeCo Neighborhood Association “Summer Series 2018” – a series of public events throughout the Summer months at Foundry Park boat basin in York City featuring arts and music festivals, Creekfire events and family festivals
White Rose Chorus “American Harmony” – public screening of the movie “American Harmony” with a live barbershop performance March 10, 2018
York Art Association “2018 York Country Youth Art Exhibit” – an art exhibit featuring works by York County Youth (grades k – 12)
York City Special Events “Box Lunch Revue Expansion” – free lunchtime concerts for the local community located in the Cherry Lane courtyard with extended Wednesday concerts
York College of PA “What are you afraid of?” – visual and performance art project by Jessica Jane Julius. Julius will also be working with York City 6th grade STEAM students to create an outlet of expression
York County History Center “(Y)our Storytellers: Capturing York’s Community Stories” – Local artist Randy Flaum will work with high school students to teach the importance of capturing family stories, interview skills and assisting with all facets of media productions to document their own neighborhood stories
York Fringe “York Fringe Festival” – juried performing arts festival open to local and regional artist of all ages throughout downtown York in August, 2018
Over $100,000 in grant dollars were awarded to bring art to life through these Creative Impact Award projects and programs.
Founded as a United Arts Fund in 1999, the Cultural Alliance’s annual campaign supports eight partner agencies that are essential to our cultural core and funds the Creative Impact Award grants that bring arts and culture to life in York County. Since 1999, the Cultural Alliance’s annual campaign has granted $8.8 million cash and more than $2 million in-kind support.
