Downtown Inc Announces 2026–2027 Welcoming Communities Grant Program
Back for the seventh year, the application period is now open for the Welcoming Communities York City Grants program.
Downtown York, PA – (February 3, 2026) Downtown Inc is now accepting Letters of Interest for the 2026–2027 Welcoming Communities Grant Program, an initiative designed to support community-led events that foster belonging, cultural connection, and accessibility for all in York City. The goal of the grant program is to identify and provide financial support to sustainable community events that contribute to creating a welcoming and connected community for all in York City through diversity, accessibility, and cultural representation. Grant amounts up to $2,000 will be considered, and the average grant amount is $1,500 or less.
“York City strives to be a place where everyone feels they belong,” says Sarah O’Brien, Director of Downtown Inc. “Through the Welcoming Communities Grant, we’re proud to partner with local organizers to create events that celebrate York’s culture, strengthen community ties, and bring new energy into our shared public spaces.”
Since its inception, the Welcoming Communities Grant has invested $93,000 into York City, supporting a total of 64 events that bring people together, celebrate diversity, and strengthen our community.
This grant program is administered by Downtown Inc and is made possible through the financial support of Better York, The Powder Mill Foundation, the York County Community Foundation, and in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of York County.
Grant Schedule:
- Letter of Interest: Opens February 4 and closes February 25
- Invitation to Submit Full Application Issued by Wednesday, March 4
(Applications that meet eligibility criteria will advance to the next round.) - Full Applications Due: Wednesday, March 25
- Panel Review Period: March 30 – April 9
- Grant Awards Announced: Immediately following review
Eligibility:
- Individuals or organizations may apply. Applicants are NOT required to be a 501(c)3.
- New programs and events, as well as established events are eligible. Priority will be given to new programs and events, though previous recipients remain eligible.
- Events must be held between May 1,2026 and May 1,2027.
- Events must be open to the public at no cost.
