Make Music Day Event Lineup Announced for June 21st

York, PA – (June 6, 2023) – The Cultural Alliance of York County will host Make Music Day on June 21st, a full day of interactive, musical events. Over 45 musicians, music educators and organizations will host musical events and performances in locations across York County from 10am-10pm on Friday, June 21st. The event will be in partnership with Make Music Night at WellSpan Park from 4-9:30pm and Explore York’s Makers Spirit event.

Featured Events were announced June 4th at a Press Conference at WellSpan Park

10am-4pm: Live Music in Cherry Lane featuring Music Together with Alyssa, drum circle with Louis Woodard, Shakey Joe Lambic and a set with Juan Mafnas and Dan Kachel.  Additional acts TBD.

11:30am: Ribbon Cutting for the new location of Noel’s Rock Shop

12pm-5pm: Interactive Music Making on Continental Square with Weary Arts Group and Shine Foundation teachers and students featuring strings, piano and percussion.

5:00pm: Kazoo Parade beginning on Continental Square. Parade will conclude at the WellSpan Park Plaza with a performances by the Temple Guard.

4-6:30pm: Party on the Plaza at WellSpan Park with live music and swing dancing with the Anna Alexander Trio, KinderMusic playalongs, make and take crafts, and an instrument petting zoo hosted by Menchey Music

6:30 pm: Make Music Night with the York Revolution will feature free kazoos for the first 1,000 people thanks to Explore York, a custom jersey auction fundraiser, crowd karaoke, and more.

11-4pm: Activities along George St. including Pianothon in front of the Capitol Theatre with the York Music Teachers Association, and a jam session inside the Strand Theatre.  Jeff Stableys Junk Band, harmonica lessons, School of Rock and Whiskey Six at Gift Horse Brewing Garden and performances by Soji Otuyelu and Andrew Gobel out front of Liquid Hero.

Royal Square District: The PA Gourd Society will have gourd instruments to play and view at Creatives on King, and Noels Rock Shop will host a Kids Punk Rock Workshop by Punk Rock Dads

Additional Events Hip Hop jam session at the Pedal 4 Peace Hub, Music to Go traveling event at various parks and nursing homes, Music and Wellness and quick start guitar lessons at Union Lutheran, educational programming at the York County libraries and free shows at both Skid Row Garage and The Kennel.

Eric Menzer and Downtown Hold up the unveiled image of the Make Music Night Custom Jersey

The custom jersey design for Make Music Night was also unveiled June 4th. York Revolution players will be wearing Make Music Jersey’s on June 21st against the Lancaster Barnstormers based on the painting “Footloose” by Biruta Hansen, which was based itself, on the song “Guadalajara”.

A collaboration between York Art Association, the Cultural Alliance and the York Revolution, the jerseys produced will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefiting the Cultural Alliance of York County and future Make Music Day events.

There is still time to register to participate as a location or performer, bars and restaurants with ability to host live music are particularly encouraged to sign up. Registration deadline is Friday, June 7th, 2024.  All questions can be directed toward yorkcounty@makemusicday.org.
