by | Sep 8, 2025

We hope you can join the Cultural Alliance, YCEA and Downtown Inc in celebrating the unveiling of the mural “Comfort Food Memories” by Ophelia Chambliss at 263 W Market St York, PA 17401.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place Friday, October 3 at 10:30am.

A message from the organizers detailing the Mural:

Ophelia’s Making Agency, the Cultural Alliance of York County, York County Economic Alliance and Budget Rentals invite you to a ribbon cutting of a new mural located on the building at 263 West Market Street at 10:30am on Friday, October 3rd.  Created by artist Ophelia Chambliss of Oliver Bliss Design, the mural is based on the submitted stories of children, young adults, families, and seniors in York County that have experienced food insecurity in their lives.  The mural was created to honor the work of former First Lady of Pennsylvania Frances Wolf and her efforts to address food insecurity across the state for PA families.
“We wanted a mural design that honored the work that Frances did as First Lady of our state to address food insecurity,” said artist Ophelia Chambliss. “We also wanted this design to incorporate the experiences and feelings with food insecurity of York residents of all ages, and capture as many of those stories as we could.”
Partnering with the York County Food Bank and the York College Food Pantry, the Cultural Alliance of York County collected first-hand resident accounts and experiences with food insecurity and their comfort food memories. Many of the words and images incorporated into the mural are lifted directly from these stories.
This mural was made possible with support by Budget Rentals, the Cultural Alliance of York County, Doug Hoke, Bob and Donna Pullo, and the York County Economic Alliance.
