York County Gears Up for Make Music Day June 21st

YORK, PA – On June 21st, 2026  York County will host Make Music Day, presented by WellSpan Health; joining over 125 countries worldwide for the largest single-day music event since its beginnings in 1982 in France. Make Music Day, coordinated in the U.S. by the Make Music Day Foundation, is an inclusive DIY celebration encouraging musicians, producers, promoters and music lovers to collaborate, and to organize in-person and online music performances in their communities. Additional support in 2026 is provided by Explore York and UPMC.

In York County, Make Music Day will be a collaborative day of musical experiences where all community members are encouraged to create music. From hosting a community choir practice at church, meeting friends for a drum circle in a park, or trying out violin, harmonic or guitar for the very first time; the Cultural Alliance is calling for collaborators work create unique events across York County for music-makers of all ages.

Music has been shown to strengthen social connectivity, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, stimulate memory, and is integral to a well-rounded, enjoyable life. By participating in Make Music Day, the Cultural Alliance and York County encourage every form of music making.

Get Involved: Registration is open now for organizations, musicians, and venues who would like to participate in Make Music Day. Visit www.makemusicday.org/yorkcounty and create an account. In 2026 all Make Music Day events will be organized through the MMD Matchmaking Website, where musicians can match with venues to host them, and venues can seek out programming. Once events are approved, musicians and organizations may also apply for micro-grants to help facilitate their program/event.
